How Publisher accounts are created by Application Manager

Publisher accounts are often created and managed by Application Manager autonomously.

When Application Manager receives stats from a remote application, information from the data received is processed in order to determine who the stats have been sent by. The domain from which the data has been sent is parsed in order to identify who / what organisation the remote application and its data belong to.

A Publisher’s username is determined by the domain from where the data has been sent. The first 20 characters of a domain are what forms a Publisher account’s username. If this matches a pre-existing publisher account within Application Manager, then the new data is associated to that account; otherwise a new Publisher account is created.

When creating a new Publisher account, and e-mail is also associated to that account within Application Manager. The e-mail address is retrieved from the Admin config settings in the remote application – this is often the e-mail address chosen by the Publisher for their remote application to send e-mail notifications from.
